TOEFL iBT Testing at Vancouver English Centre

TOEFL Screen Sample

Vancouver English Centre is proud to offer TOEFL IBT.

Now, VEC students can take their iBT TOEFL test at VEC, in our two modern iBT computer labs.

The Internet-based version of the TOEFL test (TOEFL iBT) includes a new Speaking Section, twice as many essays, and integrated skills testing. It is longer than before, and was phased in throughout 2006.

Advantages of the TOEFL iBT Test

TOEFL iBT tests all four language skills that are important for effective communication. These include speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Some questions are designed to test more than one skill.

This test requires you to do the following:

  • read, listen, and then speak in response to a question
  • listen and then speak in response to a question
  • read, listen, and then write in response to a question

Unlike the old TOEFL Computer-Based Test (CBT), the Internet-Based Test (iBT) has a Speaking section. You will speak into a microphone when you respond. The responses are then rated by human scorers.

The Writing section in the TOEFL iBT has been expanded. The new test requires you to write a response to material you hear and read, and to compose an essay. Human scorers also rate these responses.

Overall, the TOEFL iBT test is about 4 hours long. Note taking is also allowed.

TOEFL iBT scores are reported online. You can view your score 15 business days after the test. You will also receive a copy of your score report by mail.

VEC is an approved ETS-certified test centre.
