Teach English in China - Minimum Requirements
Although the diversity and the individuality of each teacher is important, there are certain qualities shared by all good teachers. These include: professionalism, organization, perseverance, respect, creativity, flexibility, and most importantly, enthusiasm. During the teacher selection process, successful candidates display all of these qualities.
Flexibility and a sense of adventure are also key requirements for teachers. China is a developing country and all applicants must be prepared to adapt to local conditions, which may vary significantly from those at home.
Requirements for Teachers in China
- Generally, schools expect teachers to be native English speakers with excellent written and spoken English.
- Applicants should possess strong communication skills and be comfortable speaking in front of groups.
- Teachers must be high school graduates.
- A Bachelor's degree in any discipline is an asset and can sometimes be a deciding factor.
- A TEFL, TESL, or TESOL certificate is always an asset and usually required.
