COURSE DESCRIPTION


This two month course is intended for students who wish to learn basic conversation skills so that they may function in Canada more easily. It is also for pre-intermediate learners whose grammar knowledge outweighs their communication ability. The daily lessons provide grammar and communication practice in a range of situational contexts. The tasks introduce useful and interesting vocabulary through simple controlled dialogues, leading to freer practice. On a weekly basis, the course provides opportunities for learners to practice the language introduced in the classes in real life settings.

Objectives


• Introduce self, use phrases for greeting
• Ask for help, advice
• Ask and give directions
• Order food and drinks in a restaurant / coffee shop
• Make a phone call
• Explain health problems at the pharmacy
• Distinguish between formal and informal English
• Pronounce confusable consonants well
• Express thoughts about the future
• State intentions and plans
• Describe past events and narrate using past tenses
• Make suggestions
