Most Canadians eat the following three meals each day:
Canadian meals are often informal. Some people "say grace" (give thanks) before meals. Others do not. You should tell your host if you are hungry. If you do not accept something to eat or drink the first time it is offered, your host will probably assume you do not want anything.
Your hosts want you to enjoy your meals, but they will not know your preferences unless you tell them. If you feel uncomfortable about discussing this with your hosts, mention it to a member of the Vancouver English Centre staff. We will find a tactful way to bring it to the attention of your host family. Also, be sure to indicate foods you dislike, when you complete your Application for Homestay.
Vancouver Restaurants and Coffee ShopsIf you choose to buy your lunch or dinner from a restaurant, expect to pay $5 - $8 for a fast-food meal and $12 - $25 for a meal at a more formal restaurant.
