Our primary school, Vancouver International College, has over 120 students from Kindergarten 1-3 through grade 6. VIC is staffed by native-speaking English teachers who have nothing less than the required teaching degrees and certification to teach in a primary school. Our students study all their courses in English - an amazing feat in itself for non-speakers of English.

You will have the opportunity to interact with teachers and children in our kindergarten and primary school. You will observe experienced classroom teachers, while honing your skills in teaching these young learners. In addition to the 40 hours of classroom work you have the opportunity to interact for an additional 10 - 20 hours with children of all ages. You will also have a chance to experience English classes with children from within the Mexican public school system who attend our school especially to improve their English skills.

TEC Course Content

• The theory of "How Children Learn"
• Teaching English, as well as other subjects, to first-language learners
• Dialogue Strategies
• How to Use a Book - how one book turns into many useful hours.
• Creative activities for children
• Classroom management
• Positive discipline
• Classroom observations and teaching practice

Prerequisites

• VLC TEFL / TESL Certificate Program, or previous TEFL / TESL certification and teaching experience.

Duration

• 2 weeks (total of 40 hours of instruction, observation and teaching time)

This course can be combined with the TBE (Teaching Business English) elective and/or Spanish language courses.
