Student Comments - Mayumi Osawa

I took a sixteen-week course of the Business Internship Program.
I studied about very practical business knowledge and skills like marketing, presentation, how to write a resume and a covering letter, computers, telephone calls, negotiation techniques and others at school for the first eight weeks. I was especially interested in the resume and covering letter, which are completely different style from the Japanese versions.

I worked for Japan Airlines (JAL) as a business intern for the last eight weeks. I have been really interested in the airline industry for a long time, and also, to work at an airline company is my dream. The program coordinator looked after me with tender care, not only during the work experience, but also after I completed the program. My position at JAL was a receptionist and an assistant at the Agency Desk.

I had never worked in the airline industry. Therefore, I struggled with everything. However, JAL staff was very wonderful, friendly and helpful. I absolutely enjoyed the job and the staff, and learned more many things than I expected.

ESL schools do not usually have a business internship program like VEC. I am grateful to VEC, which gave me the great opportunities in a beautiful city, Vancouver. The study and the work experience will help my job hunting after I go back to my country.
