Student Comments - Katja Wollmann
Last summer I was booked on an eight week business internship program at VEC in Vancouver, Canada. What a great challenge for me!
During first four weeks we were trained to next coming internship. In a small group of 7 pupils coming from several foreign countries we talked permanently business topics and learned how to react in business applications, how to organize meetings, how to moderate negotiations, taking phone calls, to do interviews and so on.
We were also trained to write letter of application with curriculum vitae. All this led also to plenty information about Canada. Afternoon lessons had been used to practice intensive knowledge of English language. We had great fun doing small talks, networking and communications at public places.
In order to get a host for an internship, each of us had to introduce ourselves at the internship places. I myself did this at Hilton Hotel Vancouver Metrotown in Burnaby with a positive result. What a pleasure to me!
During my stay at Hilton Hotel, I was mainly engaged in sales and catering department. Plenty of jobs in sales administration and organisation tasks filled properly my daily work. Short job rotation offered a possibility to view into jobs at front desk, reservations, house keeping, personnel office. This was very interesting to me and opened many challenges, which I never will forget.
At this occasion, I would like to thank all employees of Sales and Catering department for the great time we had together. A special thanks to my supervisor Karen. She assisted me whenever necessary. I collected fantastic impressions and managed lots of funny situations I always will remember.
Plenty of thanks to Wendy my internship coordinator of VEC. She offered me the chance for an interview at Hilton Hotel.
Thank you for all.
