Refund Policy Overview

The purpose of this information is to provide a brief explanation of how refunds are calculated. For more detailed information, click here.


Before Your Program Begins

*Please note that Application Fee and Homestay Placement Fee are non-refundable
Tuition Refund When Student Must Cancel Cancellation Fee Retained
75% Visa Application Rejected by CIC 25% of total fees ($200 maximum)
75% 0 to 2 day(s) after making the contract 25% of total fees ($400 maximum)
70% More than 30 days before starting 30% of tuition fees
60% 1 to 30 days before starting 40% of tuition fees

After Your Program Begins

Tuition Refund When Student Must Cancel Cancellation Fee Retained
50% 0 to 9% of the program completed 50% of tuition fees
25% 10 to 19% of the program completed 75% of tuition fees
No Refund 20 to 100% of the program completed 100% of tuition fees

Cancellation Procedure

  • Use the chart above to determine the approximate amount that will be refunded to you.
  • Inform VEC of your intention to cancel. You should cancel by fax, mail, email, or in person at the administration office. Be sure to include the date, your name, and your student number.
  • If you must cancel your program because your visa application was rejected, please send the original copy of the rejection letter with your notice of cancellation.
  • Refunds will usually be issued in the same format as the fees were received i.e. cheque, bank draft (wire transfer) or credit card, with the exception of cash. VEC does not issue cash refunds.

Reduced Tuition for Permanent Residents of BC

Permanent residents who have continually lived in BC for the previous 60 days or Canadian citizens who have continually lived in BC or their home countries abroad (outside of Canada) for the previous 60 days are entitled to a 75% Tuition Fee reduction. Proof of permanent residency in BC (BC Driver's License or BC ID) is required. This discount applies only to the Regular English Programs. It does not apply to the Ski/Snowboard + English Program, the Vacation Study Program, the Summer Youth Program or the Business Internship Programs.
