Resident Care Attendant DiplomaResident Care Attendants (also called Long-Term Care Aides, Orderlies, Geriatric Aides and Health Care Workers) represent a large and growing job group. The inclusion of a community training home support section in this program is valuable because this area of care has a high employment rate for VEC/Sprott-Shaw graduates. Vancouver English Centre (VEC) and Sprott-Shaw Community College (SSCC) offer a joint one-year Resident Care Attendant (RCA) program for international students. During the first portion of the program, you will improve your language skills at VEC. This will ensure that you will be able to successfully complete the RCA program and later work in an English-speaking environment. During the last portion of the program, you will undergo RCA training at SSCC. With this program you can provide all aspects of personal care to patients in nursing homes, extended care facilities, rehabilitation centres, hospitals and community health agencies. As a worker in this field, you would require good physical health, stamina and a genuine desire to be a caregiver. Patience, understanding, emotional stability, dependability and team spirit are all traits that can help you excel as a Resident Care Attendant. Note: CPR, First Aid, Food Safe and Basic WHMIS will be completed during the program. Career Opportunities
